Canada's FDI stock has grown 5 times since 2000, to C$1.6 trillion

What does it mean that Canada’s stock of foreign direct investment has grown more than 5x since 2000? Based on the tenor of the conversation, you’d think we are starved for investment capital as a country.

Over the next few weeks, you’re going to hear a lot about foreign direct investment.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is hosting a landmark investment summit in Toronto on Sept, 14-15, with many of the world’s largest institutional capital allocators in attendance.

Carney has said that he wants the government to catalyze $1 trillion in additional FDI in the coming years.

In the weeks ahead, the Canadian Shield Institute will be publishing original research and actionable policy proposals.
